This was based on a resolution adopted by the Senate during plenary following a motion sponsored by Senator BARAU JIBRIN from Kano North and four other lawmakers.
In his lead submission; Senator JIBRIN said the customs decision to stop importation of vehicles through the land borders would lead to the loss of five hundred thousand jobs.
Senator JIBRIN also maintained that the policy was not economically viable, while other lawmakers, who made contributions, demanded the customs service to show capacity in managing the borders and stop the smuggling of vehicles.
At the end of the debate; the Senate mandated its Committee on Customs to investigate the circumstances leading to the government ban on land border importation of vehicle, which takes effect this January.
The Senate also advised the Federal Government to consider the regulation of vehicle importation by approving an entry permit in each of the geopolitical zones that has international land borders.
