Authorities in Haiti have postponed the presidential election this weekend following the destruction caused by the most powerful Caribbean hurricane in nearly a decade.
Officials said at least ten persons have died in the disaster, while thousands of people have been displaced.
Meanwhile; Florida and South Carolina in the United States are bracing for the storm, which is nearing the Bahamas.
Reports say all air and sea traffic has been halted on the Caribbean islands and people have been urged to move to higher ground.
The US National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Matthew has in the meantime downgraded to a Category Three storm, but is expected to strengthen to Category Four as it hits the US coast.
