Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has admitted that financial security was one of the factors behind his decision to leave Manchester City for Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.
The 28-year-old joined Al-Qadsiah from Manchester City in August on a five-year contract after just one season at the Etihad Stadium. The transfer was reportedly worth about £52 million.
Speaking about the move, Reijnders said he wanted to secure his financial future and that of his family after his football career ends.
The midfielder acknowledged that money played a role in his decision, saying he did not want to pretend otherwise.
Reijnders also explained that he was attracted by Al-Qadsiah’s ambitions and the club’s plans to establish itself as one of the leading teams in Asia.
He said his intention is not simply to earn money but also to compete for trophies and contribute to the club’s development.
Reijnders spent the 2025/26 season at Manchester City after joining from AC Milan. He made 50 appearances for the club and helped City win the FA Cup and League Cup.
The Netherlands international has since begun his new chapter in the Saudi Pro League, where he will continue his career with Al-Qadsiah.
