Trump Portrait Appears on New US $1 Coin

US President Donald Trump’s portrait has appeared on a new US $1 coin issued as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.

The United States Mint released the special coin on September 2, 2026, featuring Trump’s portrait alongside the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026.”

The reverse side carries the Presidential Seal, with the number “250” added to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary.

The release makes Trump the first sitting US president in a century to appear on a circulating coin, with Calvin Coolidge previously featured on a commemorative half-dollar in 1926.

The coin has generated debate because US law and longstanding tradition generally restrict living people from appearing on American currency. However, the Treasury has relied on special legislation authorising a commemorative $1 coin for the 2026 anniversary.

The US Mint says the coin is intended to capture the spirit, pride and legacy of the United States as the country approaches its landmark anniversary.
