Rivers Police Dismiss Four Officers Over Alleged Killing of 22-Year-Old

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed and paraded four police officers found culpable in the alleged killing of 22-year-old Anthony Obodo in Port Harcourt.

The incident occurred on August 27, 2026, around Agip by Ada George in Port Harcourt.

Addressing journalists during the parade at the command headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, said an orderly room trial and investigation conducted by the command established the involvement of ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, Inspector Solomon Nwrogu, Corporal Alfred Louis and Police Constable Michael Ejokwu in the incident.

According to the Commissioner, the officers have consequently been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will subsequently be charged to court to face appropriate criminal charges.

CP Adepoju explained that the officers were part of a patrol team from Agip Division, led by ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, which was returning from an NBA special duty at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium when they sighted a black, fully tinted vehicle.

He said the team attempted to stop the vehicle for a check, but the driver allegedly sped away, prompting a pursuit.

The Commissioner said that during the pursuit, Corporal Alfred Louis, who was attached to the patrol team, opened fire at the vehicle, with the bullet hitting the driver and resulting in the death of Anthony Obodo.

CP Adepoju said the disciplinary action against the officers demonstrates the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that personnel who abuse their powers or act contrary to the law and professional standards are held accountable.

He added that the dismissed officers would face the appropriate criminal proceedings in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner also paraded suspected members of a one-chance syndicate allegedly operating in parts of Port Harcourt.

One mini-bus and 16 mobile phones were recovered from the suspects, according to the police.

CP Adepoju said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations, while urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, criminal activities and incidents of police misconduct through appropriate channels.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, transparency, respect for human rights and effective service to the people.

Some of the suspects who spoke with journalists, including a suspect allegedly involved in washing counterfeit currency and another linked to the one-chance syndicate, reportedly admitted their involvement in the crimes and disclosed what led them into the activities and the number of times they had allegedly participated in them.
