Colombia Midfielder Receives Death Threats After World Cup Exit

Colombia midfielder Jáminton Campaz has received death threats following the country’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Campaz became the target of online abuse after missing a crucial scoring opportunity during extra time in Colombia’s Round of 16 defeat to Switzerland before converting his penalty in the shootout, which Colombia eventually lost.

The Colombian Football Federation condemned the threats against the midfielder and his family, describing them as unacceptable and calling on authorities to investigate those responsible.

The federation stressed that no athlete should be subjected to intimidation for representing their country and urged fans to ensure sporting disappointment never turns into hatred or violence.
