A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until July 22 further proceedings in the N10 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, against the Independent National Electoral Commission and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The case, which came up before Justice S. O. Ibrahim, was adjourned to allow INEC appear before the court after the plaintiff’s counsel, L. T. Adeh, informed the judge that hearing notices had been served on both respondents but the electoral body was absent. Counsel to Olayinka said he was ready to proceed but did not oppose the request for adjournment.
Emeka Ike is seeking N10 billion in damages over the alleged breach of his right to privacy following the publication of his voter registration details on social media. He contends that the information was posted without his consent after being accessed from a restricted INEC administrative portal.
The court directed that INEC be served with hearing notice and all relevant processes before the next adjourned date. The matter is expected to resume on July 22 for further mention.
