Multiple levies imposed by authorities of Obio-Akpor weighing down on businesses in the area.

The worst hit are businesses operated by people who are not from Obio-Akpor or Rivers State, including non-indigene owners of buildings in the area.

VINCENT OKOROMA who owns a building in Obio-Akpor told our correspondent that he just received a demands notice of eighty-five thousand naira for his building.

OKOROMA complained that the indiscriminate taxes and levies are becoming unbearable, as he called on the Rivers State Government to intervene.

A laundry service provider and a chemist owner at Rumuolumeni also in Obio-Akpor complained of similar outrageous charges.

The respondents who would not want to have their identities revealed said their received demand notice bearing the name of Rivers State Internal Revenue Service but with the logo of Obio-Akpor Local Government council and an unidentified signature.

Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR who has been monitoring the indiscriminate revenue impositions reports that the trend is restricted to Obio-Akpor parts of the Rivers State capital.
