The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, has been named Daily Independent Social Impact Man of the Year 2025.
The award was presented at Eko Hotels and Suites during the newspaper’s 25th anniversary celebration. Editor-in-Chief, Steve Omanufeme, explained that winners were selected through a combination of public voting and expert review.
Professor Zabbey was recognised for his contributions to development in Ogoni communities, including job creation, skills training for youths and women, and the expansion of community-focused programmes. Under his leadership, HYPREP has also supported education, healthcare, small businesses, and improved access to water and infrastructure, alongside large-scale environmental restoration efforts such as mangrove recovery to boost biodiversity and livelihoods.
