In a statement released by the media assistant to the state Chairman, FELIX OBUAH, the state chapter of the PDP urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and fish out those behind the incident.
FELIX OBUAH said the news of the killing of ATSUWETE was a shocker that threw the entire PDP into deep mourning and grave concern.
The PDP Chairman noted that the slain lawyer was energetic and sound-minded; adding that he contributed significantly to the advancement of human rights, rule of law, social and criminal justice, as well as democracy and good governance in Rivers State.
FELIX OBUAH said late KEN ATSUWETE was a household name in the practice of the law profession and in civil society activism in Rivers State.
The state leadership of the PDP also appealed to its rivals in the APC to avoid playing politics with the issue of security, including the killing of the lawyer, KEN ATSUWETE.
The ruling party in the state said such development should be given serious attention, without consideration for political sentiment.
It noted that statements emanating from leaders and members in the opposition APC in the state should not be the case.
The PDP Chairman stressed that all hands must be on deck to support various efforts of Governor NYESOM WIKE in tackling issues of insecurity and social vices in the state.
The Rivers State PDP Chairman also appeals to all concerned persons, stakeholders and institutions to allow the Police carry out their investigations into the murder of KEN ATSUWETE as well as to maintain peace in the State.
He equally condemned APC leaders for allegedly trying to drag the name of Governor WIKE and the PDP into the assassination of ATSUWETE.
Speaking further during a media briefing at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt; the State Publicity Secretary, SAMUEL NWONOSIKE said the party stands by a report that claimed KEN ATSUWETE was killed by kidnappers and not hired assassins.
