These form part of concerns expressed by the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council over the murder of KEN ATSUWETE in a gun attack at Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a statement obtained by our correspondent; the IYC leadership said could not understand what may have led to what it described as insane act of taking the life of the man.
According to the statement; IYC Secretary-General, BRISTOL-ALAGBARIYA EMMANUEL said the most surprising aspect of the incident was that ATSUWETE did not die immediately he was attacked by the unknown gunmen.
BRISTOL-ALAGBARIYA suggested KEN ATSUWETE could have survived the gunshots but for the fear of police harassment by the first responders and the strike by a section of workers at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
The IYC leadership called on the Inspector General of police to change the orientation of the Nigerian Police Force to be responsive to people in need of medical help as a priority.
The group also called for a special attention to the problem of insecurity in Rivers State and other parts of the Niger Delta, with emphasis on intelligence gathering as a critical strategy in crime prevention.
