Peace talks between Colombian government and the Farc rebel group,a ceasefire has come into effect.

The ceasefire also effectively signals the end of the world’s longest insurgency, which raged in Colombia for over fifty years.

Colombian President JUAN MANUEL SANTOS signed a decree to halt military operations against the Farc, which also took effect from midnight.

Farc leader RODRIGO LONDONO also issued an order for his fighters to stop firing, but the final agreement on ending the war will not be signed until next month.

In his declaration; the rebel leader known as TIMOLEON JIMENEZ or TIMOCHENKO, said never again will parents be burying their sons and daughters killed in the war.

TIMOCHENKO told journalists that all rivalries and grudges will remain in the past.
