Thousands of civilians, rebel fighters asked to leave Syrian town of Darayya.

The area has been under government siege since 2012 before a deal was reached for safe passage of people trapped in Darayya.

Residents of the besieged town had faced near-constant bombardment and shortages of food, water and power.

But both sides have now resolved to begin the evacuation of the town, near the capital Damascus.
