The member representing Asari Toru Constituency I in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Tekenari Wellington, has faulted reports claiming that plans have been concluded to perform the foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed Buguma Fire Service and Safety Training Institute.
Wellington clarified that although he had earlier sought and obtained preliminary approval from the Buguma Internal Affairs Society, as well as the Regent of Buguma and the council of chiefs, no final decision has been taken regarding the project.
He explained that while it is within his responsibility as a lawmaker—and as a former student of Kalabari National College, Buguma—to pursue developmental projects in his constituency, he would not take unilateral decisions without broad consultation.
The lawmaker emphasized that he would not play politics with the development of his constituents, stressing that any project embarked upon would follow due process and reflect the collective interest of the Buguma community.
