President Bola Tinubu has again expressed support for the establishment of state police as part of efforts to tackle insecurity across the country. He made this known during discussions with international partners, stressing that local policing would allow states to respond faster and more effectively to security threats. The President said consultations are ongoing to ensure the initiative is implemented within the framework of the constitution.
He noted that the Federal Government is engaging state governments, lawmakers, and security agencies to address concerns about funding, control, and accountability. Tinubu said safeguards would be put in place to prevent abuse and ensure professionalism.
