A former spokesman for the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Anabs Sara-Igbe, has advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara not to pursue legal action to challenge his reported six-month suspension, arguing that such a move would be futile due to what he described as the lack of independence in Nigeria’s judiciary and legislature.
Sara-Igbe gave the advice while speaking as a guest on Rhythm FM’s News and Current Affairs Programme, View Point, where he discussed the ongoing political situation in Rivers State and efforts to restore peace.
According to him, seeking redress through the courts or the National Assembly would not yield meaningful results because both institutions, in his view, are influenced by political interests rather than justice or fairness.
“The Governor should not waste his time going to court or the National Assembly because there is no true independence in these institutions,” Sara-Igbe said. “The focus now should be on consolidating the peace efforts currently taking shape in the state.”
Sara-Igbe, who is also a member of the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, expressed optimism that peacebuilding initiatives in Rivers State are beginning to produce positive results. He commended key political actors for showing renewed commitment to reconciliation and stability in the state.
He emphasized that dialogue and understanding remain the best paths toward resolving the lingering political crisis, urging leaders across party lines to prioritize the interests of Rivers people above personal or political gains.
“The elders are encouraged by the willingness of stakeholders to come together for peace,” he said. “What Rivers State needs now is unity, not confrontation.”
The statement comes amid ongoing efforts by community leaders and stakeholders to defuse tensions and foster stability within the state’s political landscape.
