Emohua Council Workers Protest Over Alleged Salary Exclusion

Some aggrieved staff of the Emohua Local Government Council in Rivers State have staged a peaceful protest at the State Local Government Service Commission office in Port Harcourt over alleged exclusion from the August salary payroll.

The protesters, who blocked some staff of the commission from accessing their offices at the state secretariat, said the action was to draw attention to their plight.

Today FM correspondent Uchendu Ejiohwor reports that the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Isreal Amadi, later invited a delegation of the workers for a closed-door meeting.

One of the protest leaders, Solomon Erim, said over 300 workers were affected, noting that they only became aware of the issue when some of their colleagues received their August salaries while they did not.

Other protesters, including Ovundah and Chioma Victor-Solomon, Vice Chairman of NULGE, Emohua Chapter, alleged that they experienced a similar challenge during the first tenure of the current council chairman and vowed to use every legal means to resist a repeat.

Addressing the protesters, Commission Chairman Isreal Amadi blamed some officials of the commission deployed to Emohua, warning that those playing politics with workers’ welfare would face sanctions. He assured the aggrieved workers that their grievances would be addressed promptly and urged them to remain patient.
