Despite ongoing controversies surrounding the August 30 local government elections in Rivers State, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has confirmed that candidates who emerged from last Saturday’s party primaries have begun picking up their nomination forms.
This move comes ahead of the screening exercise scheduled to take place on Friday, as preparations for the election intensify.
RSIEC Commissioner in charge of Political Parties Affairs, Monitoring, and Security, Godfrey Woke, told our correspondent Monica Ogwa that the Commission is working round the clock to ensure a successful and credible poll.
He also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to the election timeline, stating that the August 30 date is sacrosanct and will not be shifted under any circumstance.
