INEC;Security one of the greatest Challenges of the Comission in Conducting Elections

With specific reference to the inconclusive legislative re-runs in Rivers State; the INEC Chairman said insecurity comes at a huge cost to the commission.

He was represented by a federal commissioner of INEC, ANTHONIA SIMBENE at the conference on the theme: “Election Security Challenges and African Development”, which was organized by National Political Science Association.

On his part, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor FAHWELE AKIN who delivered a speech on behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, ANTHONY IBE, also hammered on the problem of insecurity.

FAHWELE AKIN observed that insecurity in parts of Nigeria has not only prevented INEC from discharging its duties but has also denied the people of the right representation in governance.

Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that Vice Chancellors and Rectors of tertiary institutions in parts of the country joined officials of INEC at the conference in Port Harcourt.
