Saraki mounts pressure on Danladi Umar to disqualify himself from his trial

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that lead defence counsel KANU AGABI made the demand in a motion that was filed in court today, in which he accused the CCT Chairman of bias.

At the resumption of trial today, KANU AGABI who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, drew the attention of the tribunal to the motion, and insisted that it had to be taken first.

But the prosecution counsel opposed the motion and urged the tribunal to proceed with the trial despite the insistence of the defence counsel.

After listening to the arguments; Justice DANLADI UMAR adjourned the trial to 21st of June for hearing of the motion.

The new motion is against the backdrop of a remark by the CCT Chairman implying that SARAKI was tactically delaying his trial to avoid the final consequences.

You will recall that Senator SARAKI had through his lawyers filed a similar motion in the early part of the trial, but it was struck out by the tribunal.
