Thousands of people gathered in central Orlando on Monday night, holding candles and flowers in tribute to the victims.
In New York, the lights of the Empire State Building were turned off as thousands attended a memorial event for the Orlando victims.
Similar gatherings were also held in France, Australia, United Kingdom and Germany in memory of forty-nine people who were killed by the lone gunman.
A vigil in London’s Soho District, which is the hub of the city’s gay community, featured the release of forty-nine balloons, one for each of the victims.
In Australia; the landmark Sydney Harbour Bridge was lit in the rainbow colours of the gay community flag, as hundreds gathered to pay tribute.
The BBC reports that Paris’s Eiffel Tower was also lit up in rainbow colours, as well as the colours of the US flag, as a memorial was held to honour those killed and injured in Orlando.
Also, more than one hundred people gathered outside the US embassy in Berlin to light candles, lay flowers and wave rainbow flags.
Meanwhile; US authorities have revealed that the gunman OMAR MATEEN pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State shortly before the attack.
President Barack Obama is due to travel to Orlando on Thursday to pay his respects to the victims.
