The conflict erupted when PDP members loyal to Governor Fubara began setting up canopies for a Ward victory thanksgiving within the community Town Hall, and the opposing faction attempted to prevent them from doing so.
The situation escalated as supporters from both factions wielded weapons, but security forces intervened to prevent further escalation.
Speaking to Today FM, several individuals expressed concerns, stating that the governor’s supporters were determined not to allow a repeat of the incident in Etche Local Government Area.
They emphasized the need for police intervention to maintain peace and order.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has warned parties in the political crisis in the state to shun acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order.
The command said it would not allow any individual or group to disrupt the existing peace in the state under any guise.
Reacting to different political statements circulating within the state, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, emphasized the Police’s unwavering commitment to uphold and enforce all laws and orders.
The Command urged the public to prioritize peace and compliance with the law, cautioning that those involved in political unrest will face legal consequences.
It encouraged the people to seek peaceful and lawful avenues to address grievances.
