The people of Rumuagholu community in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State, have resisted an attempt by men dressed in police uniform.
Our correspondent gathered that the police invasion is believed to be in connection to a land dispute between Rumuagholu and Rukporku communities.
The suspected policemen first stormed the residence of the Chairman of the Community Development Committee, before heading to the home of the Chairman of the Council of Chiefs.Some respondents called on the Rivers State government to intervene in the matter before the community will result to self help which they said could be dangerous.Confirming the development to our correspondent, the lawyer for Rumuagholu, LUCKY ANYA, alleged that policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Rivers State Police Command instigated the action.However; a senior police officer attached SARS said the raid in Rumuagholu was not carried out by them.
The people of Rumuagholu are accusing men of the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad of conniving with Rukporku community to deprive them of their land in exchange for some plots offered them by the rival community.
