APC Condemns Attack On Port-Harcourt Rally

The APC alleged that the attack involving the use of Improvised Explosive Devices and rapid gunfire which resulted to serious injuries on Party members and supporters was carried out by suspected thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The APC in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka noted that the mission of the attackers was to disrupt the rally at Rumuwoji Town in Mile one area of Port-Harcourt, under the pretext of enforcing draconic Executive Orders 21 and 22 of the Rivers State Government enacted to stifle opposition political engagements.

The statement which also condemned the gruesome attack on APC members, said the Port-Harcourt APC rally was convened in accordance with all applicable constitutional and legal standards of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The National leadership of the APC however, called on the Inspector General of Police to order a full, thorough and expeditious investigation of the incident, insisting that the statements credited to the Rivers State Police Command that there was no explosion at the rally does not cut the urgency and seriousness of the matter.

The APC insisted that the Police cannot casually and hastily dismiss eye-witness reports of explosion of IEDs at the rally without full and proper investigation, saying that if such an investigation has been conducted, the Nigeria Police should do well to make the investigation report public.
