Youth group tasks South East Development Commission, governors on ICT

he South East Youths Stakeholders Forum (SEYSF) has urged the South East Development Commission and the region’s political office holders to ensure that Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Enugu Campus, delivered on its mandates.

The Chairman of SEYSF, Ezenwa Oyinrimba, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

“This development is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for technological advancement in the South East.

“It will empower our youths, create jobs, and stimulate innovation.

“I urge the South East Development Commission, the governors of South Eastern states, the Deputy Speaker House of Representative, traditional institutions, and the Private sector, to synergise and grow this initiative,” Oyinrimba said.

He commended the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for its commitment to the growth of Information and communication Technology (ICT) in the region.

He said the establishment of the DBI Enugu campus would provide young people across the region with access to cutting-edge digital education, skills acquisition, and capacity-building opportunities.

He said these were necessary for thriving in today’s global digital economy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the DBI President, Mr David Daser, recently said that operations at the Enugu Campus had officially commenced.

Daser said the development had reinforced DBI’s commitment to expanding digital skills training across Nigeria, in support of government’s initiative to foster digital literacy and empower the workforce of the future.

He explained that the move was to produce graduates that would contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s digital transformation and economic growth.

“The establishment of the Enugu Campus is strategically designed to provide high-quality ICT and telecom training, ensuring that young Nigerians and professionals in the region gain the requisite skills to thrive in the digital economy.

“This initiative is in line with the ministry’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, spearheaded by the Minister Dr Bosun Tijani.

“It is also a bold step towards developing a highly skilled and globally competitive workforce in Nigeria,” Daser said.

He said that the campus would play a critical role in advancing DBI’s National Innovation Diploma (NID) Programme, which aims at equipping students with practical and innovative knowledge in various ICT fields.

“The NID Programme is tailored to meet industry demands by producing graduates who can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s digital transformation and economic growth.

“We encourage aspiring ICT professionals, students, and corporate organisations to leverage on this opportunity for career advancement and technological excellence.

“The commencement of the DBI Enugu Campus marks a significant step towards the realisation of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. The government cannot do it alone without the supports of south east,” he said.
