Witness surfaces against Police officer who allegedly raped a widow in Port Harcourt

You would recalled that the four officers had during a meeting with the Spokesman of Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni claimed that the widow was not arrested for not putting on nose mask but rather she alighted at the place to visit the said Inspector who had earlier agreed with her to stop by when she is coming back from Bori.

The Position of the officers is in contrary to the widow who had earlier told newsmen that she was arrested for not putting on nose mask and instead on taking her to the station but was diverted to a guest house where she was allegedly raped over night by the Inspector.

But the driver of the vehicle identified as Lucky told correspondent Uchendu Ejiowhor that the woman was actually arrested for not putting on nose mask by the Police Officers deployed around Saapenkwaa junction in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Our Correspondent reports that the command spokesman disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan has however, ordered that the case file be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation after which the outcome of the investigation will be made public.

In the meantime, a Human Rights Advocate in the state through its spokesman, Prince Wiro in a reaction said the testimony of the driver of the vehicle has put to rest the claims of the officers just as he urged the Police Authority in the state not to shield any of their officers found culpable in course of the investigation.

In the same vein, a group of widows in Rivers State have threatened actions against Nigerian Police Should they failed to bring to book those responsible for the alleged rape of their member.
