Governor Wike who said this while flagging-off the new convocation arena of the University of Port Harcourt said VCs are now appointed because politicians want to use them to influence the appointments of returning officers during elections.
While warning against any plan to rig elections in Rivers state, Governor Wike advised lecturers who wish to play politics to do so openly.
The Governor also vowed to resist any attempt to remove a clause from the electoral act amendment bill, that allows election results to be transmitted electronically
