The latest of such was the collision of USS JOHN S. MCCAIN with an oil tanker near Singapore, which left two sailors missing and five others injured.
The Monday accident was the fourth crash involving a US Navy ship in a year, and the second in the past two months.
The chief of Naval Operations, Navy Admiral JOHN RICHARDSON, said in a statement that the trend demands more forceful action.
He said the ‘operation pause’, which would be staggered across the fleets, could begin within a week and would last one to two days.
