The nonpayment of the allowance despite a promise by the government to do is part of the reasons for the nationwide strike called by the National Association of Resident Doctors, which began today.
Addressing a news conference at the UPTH, Professor OJULE said the issues at the heart of the industrial action are not peculiar to the Port Harcourt-based federal health institution.
The CMD also said the Resident Doctors had declined an offer by the hospital management to clear thirty percent of the arrears, assuring that the doctors would be paid in full once funds were released by the government.
He acknowledged that healthcare delivery in the hospital has been negatively affected due to the strike by the resident doctors.
However; Professor said other health workers and consultants are available to render services to patients.
