In a statement, President Yoweri Museveni said the ADF made two bombs, which they were planning to plant in churches in Kibibi, Butambala, before they were defused by the police.
The ADF group has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.
This followed shortly after 79-year old Museveni, who has ruled the country since 1986, said Ugandan forces had carried out air strikes against ADF positions in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
He had also expressed fears that the ADF could attempt to commit some random terrorist acts in Uganda following the airstrikes.
