The mayor of the capital, Tehran, Alireza Zakani made his withdrawn public in a post on his X official page.
This followed after 53-year old Amir-Hossein Hashemi, dropped his candidacy and urged other candidates to do the same, so as to strengthen what he described as the front of the revolution.
The snap election will be held today, following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last month.
Hashemi who served as one of Raisi’s vice presidents, ran in the 2021 presidential election and received less than one million votes.
