Tai Youth Allege Selective Employment in HYPREP Recruitment

Some youths from Tai Local Government Area have raised concerns over alleged selective employment practices by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP.

The youths accused HYPREP of favouring individuals with political connections and influential godfathers in its recruitment, employment, and skills acquisition programmes.

Those from Koroma, Bunu, and Norwa communities who spoke to our reporter claimed that qualified indigenes are often sidelined in the process.

One of the affected youths narrated his experience, alleging exclusion despite meeting the required qualifications.

HYPREP has, however, repeatedly clarified that its job and contract opportunities are based strictly on merit and not on political affiliations.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved youths also accused the Chairman of Tai Local Government, Mbakpone Okpe, and their representative in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ngbar Bernard Baridamue, of not doing enough to address their concerns.
