Stakeholders Raise Security Concerns Ahead of Rivers By-Elections

Concerned stakeholders have expressed worry over recent killings in parts of Rivers State ahead of Saturday’s by-elections in Khana Constituency 2 and Ahoada East Constituency 2.

In an interview, a member representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Fubara Enoch, urged young people across the state to shun violence and encouraged voters to elect candidates who would prioritise their wellbeing.

Also speaking, the President-General of the Ijaw Wari Initiative, Somena Wokoma, called on all stakeholders to work towards a peaceful poll.

However, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State, Gabriel Yomere, assured residents that there was no cause for alarm, noting that the commission is collaborating with the police and other security agencies to maintain law and order before and during the by-election.
