Stakeholders from the Orashi area of Rivers State want government to take proactive steps towards addressing the likely consequences of flooding in their communities. Our correspondent reports that the people of Orashi, spreading across several local government areas in Rivers State, became disturbed following the recent warning of possible flooding issued by the National Emergency Management Agency. The Leader of Orashi Coalition, NAPOLION ADAH referred to devastating flood that swept across coastal communities in Nigeria in 2012, which destroyed many houses and farmland. ADAH told correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA that impact of the flooding last three years would have been less if government had been proactive in its intervention.
NAPOLION ADAH said the group he leads has commenced a sensitization exercise on how people can respond in the event of another flood disaster.
