The corruption trial of former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, OLISA METUH, took an unexpected turn yesterday when his lawyer asked for the arrest of the Director General of the Department of State Services, LAWAL DAURA.Senior Advocate of Nigeria, EMEKA ETIABA made the request when the trial of his client resumed before Justice OKON ABANG of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
This followed the failure by the DSS to produce former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel SAMBO DASUKI in court to give evidence in the case of alleged four hundred million naira fraud against METUH.
DASUKI was summoned by the court alongside former President GOODLUCK JONATHAN in the case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Similarly; JONATHAN’s counsel, Chief MIKE OZEKHOME, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, filed a motion challenging the subpoena of his client.
Alternatively, OZEKHOME requested that OLISA METUH should provide the sum of one billion naira to cover the transportation cost of the former president and his security aides, who would have to travel from his home town in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
On his part; AHMED RAJI, SAN, who represents DASUKI also told the court that they have filed a motion at the Appeal Court challenging his client’s summons.
After listening to all the arguments, Justice ABANG said he could not conclude that the DSS had flouted the court order to produce DASUKI in court, and therefore allowed for another opportunity for the agency to do so.
Justice ABANG also directed the counsel to present written and oral submissions, as the matter continues today.
