Wilbros FC emerges champions of the Today FM U-20 Soccer Fiesta

The Today FM U-20 Soccer fiesta came to a climax on Saturday, 21st December 2019 with Wilbros FC emerging champions of the inaugural edition of the competition.

Wilbros FC defeated SKE FC 3-1 to emerge victors and maiden winners of the tournament organized by the management of Today 95.1 FM.

Wisdom Stephen of Wilbros FC who was later voted Man of the match for the final, scored all three goals, his first and only hat trick of the competition.

Stephen also bagged home the most valuable Player (MVP) award.

His team mate, Stanley Okeke emerged highest goal scorer having scored 7 goals with 6 of those goals coming from the match against De Masters at which Wilbros won by a 9:0 margin, the highest score line in a single fixture of the competition.

Best Behaved team award went to De Masters for not conceding a single caution all-through the competition and also fielding-in the youngest set of players while the golden glove award went to Chinedu Iwu of Life Way FC for keeping two clean sheets in four matches.

Life way FC emerged second runners up after defeating Super Emirates 3:0.

Life Way FC thus made home with N100,000, the prize money for third place while SKE FC took home N200,000 for finishing second and the overall winner, Wilbros FC were N300,000 richer.

The final played at the treasure FM football field, NTA premises, Mgbouba had in attendance, Coach of the Nigerian U-23 national team and CHAN eagles, IMAMA AMAPAKABO; Chairman, Today FM, DAVID IYOFOR; Paramount ruler of Alakehia Akpor community, HRH EZE DANIEL OGBONNA DODO, JP; President of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Rivers state chapter, Honour SIRAWOO, represented by OLALEKAN IGE; Former commissioner for Sports, FRED MBOMBO IGWE and EMEKA BEKEE, former APC Secretary, Rivers state among others.

Speaking after the match, DAVID IYOFOR, Chairman Today FM assured continuity of the competition, saying 2020 edition will even be bigger and better.

He further stated reasons for hosting and sponsoring a football fiesta of such magnitude among which are giving back to the society and discovering talents for Nigerian football.

On his part, Emeka Bekee who also sponsored the competition congratulated TODAY FM for putting up such a competition, expressing delight at the final match played.

Fred Igwe, former commissioner for sport said he was impressed with the quality of football he saw and encouraged TodayFM to keep it up, emphasizing that the competition has discovered raw and young talent for Nigerian league football.
