Coach of Enyimba Football Club, Usman Abd’Allah has described his side’s 2-1 away victory to TS Galaxy of South Africa in the reverse fixture of the CAF Confederation Cup last qualifying round as, “a morale booster” which will see the Aba club side of Nigeria qualify to the group stages of the competition.

After a starkey barren first 45 minutes of the match, Ghanaian left back Daniel Darkwah put Enyimba in front at the 76th minute assisted by substitute, Cyril Olisema.

Eyimba striker, Martins Usule ensured the Aba club side were 2 goals up when he slotted home the second goal after outrunning two defenders in the 83rd minute.

Nevertheless, Enyimba were not to keep a clean sheet at Nespruit, a feat they achieved at Aba township stadium a week ago when the peoples’ elephant defeated Galaxy in an entertaining first leg 2-0 win - at the 89th minute, Terrence Mashego scored a consolation for the 2019 South African Nedbank Cup winners.

Relieving moments of the victory, the soft spoken tactician said the victory means “lot of confidence” for the players and the team generally going into the group stages.

“[It] is a win which is a morale booster to win an away match most especially in the continent. Continental away match is very important to get that confidence getting into [the] group stage with a win. But at the same time, it’s not about the result whether it’s a win or lose. It’s the qualification because that is the most important thing to get into the group stage and getting into the group stage strong like this gives the players a lot of confidence in pursuing this competition," he said.

Defender and captain of Eyimba, Ifeanyi Anaemena, on his part was unperturbed about his side's win away from home.

Anaemena boasted that the result was expected in order to silence critics who never had faith in the 8 times and reigning NPFL champions to complete the victory at South Africa.

According to Anaemena, “I feel great to have won away because we’ve long expected it. People and our fans and supporters have said that we cannot win away from home despite [that] the team is good but we needed to get an away result to make sure that the team is intact.

“The target of the team is to make sure that we go for the cup because last two seasons we played in the semifinal. We were expecting to be in the final but we couldn’t. The target of the team this season is to get to the final and win the trophy.” Anaemena continued.

Reuben Bala rated the performance of his team at 100%, stressing that the winning mentality Enyimba approached the game was what ensured them the victory.

“We played at 100%. Our performance was 100% I can rate it that. Our mentality was to win. We came with a winning mentality. So, at the end of the day we got what we wanted. I believe everybody played his best in the match. It was a good performance for the team," Bala opined.

With the result, Enyimba and Enugu Rangers who defeated ASC Kara of Togo 1-0 at Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium to tie at 2-2 aggregate progress to the group stage of the competition.

Both Nigerian clubs will know their group opponents on Sunday 10th November 2019 when the draws for the group phase of the competition would have been conducted.
