Nigeria’s long jump queen, Ese Brume, sets a record at the world athletics championship in Doha, Qatar, becoming the first athlete since 2013 to win a medal at the event for Nigeria with a leap of 6.91m in the final of the women’s long jump to win bronze.

African champion Brume finished behind German Malaika Mihambo and Ukraine’s Maryna Romanchuk to take bronze six years after Blessing Okagbare secured a podium place for Nigeria in the same discipline.

Brume’s medal achievement on the last day of the Doha Championships records the only medal for team Nigeria after what has been a disappointing outing for the country athletes.

Another Nigeria’s contingent, Tobi Amusan could only finish fourth behind America’s Nia Ali and Kendra Harrison who came through as first and second respectively, while Jamaica’s Danielle Williams won Bronze in 100m hurdle. The 22-year-old Nigerian, who is the Commonwealth champion crossed the line in 12.49s.
