Women in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have joined the growing list of critics of the mass disarming exercise embarked upon by the Nigeria Police Force.

The ONLEGA women complained that they are usually the worst hit in attacks by criminal gangs and stand to benefit more from armed local vigilante groups protecting the communities.

The respondents recounted incidents of women who were raped by criminals or prevented from going to the farms.

They equally complained about others who were kidnapped or killed, and therefore appeal to the Inspector General of Police to suspend the disarming exercise.

The women said to disarm members of the local vigilante group in ONELGA would mean to dissolve the group, since they cannot stand any chance against armed criminal gangs that have been terrorizing the area.
