There are strong indications that South Africa is considering pulling out from hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The country’s Sports Minister FIKILE MBALULA gave this indication when he confirmed that President JACOB ZUMA was scheduled for a meeting the chairperson of the Commonwealth Games Federation, LOUISE MARTIN.

Ahead of the discussion between President ZUMA and LOUISE MARTIN; the Sports Minister told reporters that the country could not afford to live beyond its means.

He suggested that the cost of hosting the event in Durban, as planned, had now become prohibitive.

Durban was in 2015 awarded the hosting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after being the only city to make a confirmed bid.
