Chelsea Crush Wolves 6-2 in Maresca's First Premier League Win
In a thrilling match at Molineux, Chelsea secured a convincing 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, handing new manager Enzo Maresca his first Premier League win. The Blues' dominant performance was capped off by a hat-trick from Noni Madueke, who scored three goals in the game.
The match got off to a disastrous start for Wolves, with Nicolas Jackson heading in the opening goal just 98 seconds into the game. The goal was met with anger from the home fans, who were already upset with Chelsea after Madueke had posted a critical review of Wolverhampton on social media just hours before kick-off.
The review, which was later deleted, read "This place is s**t" and included Madueke's location as Wolverhampton. The Chelsea forward later apologized for the post, claiming it was a mistake due to a "damn wrong Instagram account".
Despite the early setback, Wolves fought back to level the score through Matheus Cunha's goal in the 27th minute. The Brazilian forward had previously tormented Chelsea with a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge last season.
However, Chelsea regained the lead just before halftime through Cole Palmer's sublime finish. The England forward took advantage of Moises Caicedo's careless loss of possession and lobbed the ball over Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
The second half saw Chelsea take control of the game, with Madueke scoring two more goals to complete his hat-trick. Cunha scored again for Wolves, but it was not enough to prevent Chelsea from taking all three points.
The victory marks a significant improvement for Chelsea under Maresca, who suffered a 2-0 loss against Manchester City in his first game as manager.
