Rivers Govt splashes N50m on Rivers Queens For Winning Handball Title

Rivers State Governor, Similanayi Fubara, has rewarded Rivers Queens, the state female handball team fifty million naira for winning the 2023 National Division One Handball League.

Governor Fubara made the pronouncement when the Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, led the management and players of the team to hand over the trophy to the Governor at the Government House in Port Harcourt today.

The Governor said his administration will initiate a catch them young program aimed at discovering talents and developing sports in the state.

He assured that the sports sector will not be neglected because of its contributions to the development of the state.

Earlier, Rivers State commissioner for sports, Christopher Green stated that the trophy is the first of its kind in the history of the state, and appealed to the governor to consider the recruitment of coaching staff as most of the coaches at the sports council had since retired.
