NWFL: Rivers Angels dispatch Royal Queens to continue unbeaten run
By Reliance Udoenyin
Rivers Angels continued their unbeaten run in this Season's Nigeria Women's Football League with a 3-0 bashing of Royal Queens.
Against many expectations, Royal Queens held the Jewel of Rivers goalless throughout the first 45 minutes making advances at goal in search for an away Victory.
Such moments came twice before the break when Okwuchukwu's effort from a counter attack went wide the post minutes after Ibubeleye Whyte had saved a weak volley from the Queens.
The Jewels however had more opportunities to open the score sheet before the break.
Ikekhua Oghenebrume missed a near post header at the 11th minute while Damilola Koku headed wide Ikechukwu Vivian's cross at the 14th minute.
Royal Queens were solid in defence before the break, growing into the game and clearing their lines denying the Angels an opener.
The deadlock was however broken 2 minutes into the second half when Koku headed home the first to raise hope of another home Victory.
The defending Champions were a different ensemble in the second half, thanks to pep-talk and the introduction of Maryann Ezenagu and Christopher Precious who added massively to the midfield.
The Angels held onto the lead but added the second at the 82nd minute courtesy of Regina Otu's Screamer.
Ibinabo Georgewill off the bench scored a made-for-Television header at additional time when Regina Otu from the flank sent in a cross after the Jewels had completed at least 10 passes in the build to complete the routing.
