CAFCC: Nigerian Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea charges Rivers United to win return leg
The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea His Excellency Usman Ogah has urged players and officials of Rivers United to win the return leg of the CAF confederations cup preliminary round to prove they were the better team after falling 1-2 to Futuro Kings in Mongomo.
H.E Usman Ogah was present in the Estadio De Mongomo to cheer the "Pride of Rivers" on Saturday with some senior officials of the Nigeria consulate in Bata, Equatorial Guinea and he addressed the team after the match.
“ The result goes to tell you that you are going to be victorious in the next match. What this tell you is that you are the better team and we are going giving you another opportunity to prove that you are better. Go to Port Harcourt, all you need is victory and victory."
"This should not dampen you at all. If any match, if you are knocked down, you plan and finish your opponent in the next match. You have technical superiority as everybody can attest to. Today like they say in Nigerian pallence Today is not our day. I wish everybody save journey back home".
In response, General Manager of Rivers United Chief Okey Kpalukwu thanked the Ambassador from ensuring the team enjoyed their stay in Equatorial Guinea and promised that the team will give its best to get victory in the second leg and qualify.
"I want to thank you for all you have done to ensure we enjoy our stay. Let me promise you that we will get victory in the second leg".
In the same vein Rivers United Defender Ifeanyi Anaemena said his team is not down following their 1-2 loss to Futuro Kings on Saturday, adding, 'We are going to have a better result in the second leg.'
Rivers United must overturn there 1-2 loss if the must advance to the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Ifeanyi Anaemena acknowledged his teammates are disappointed but they have what it takes to overturn it in the second leg.
"We are not actually down. The game 1-2 and if we can win 1-0 or 2-0 we are going to qualify. So it's a matter for us to psych ourselves, motivate ourselves, go home and make sure that we get a positive result that will overturn this result that we have here. So we have not lost hope, we are going to get a better result."
Rivers United is host Futuro Kings in the second leg on Sunday December 6.
