Mikel Obi targets promotion with Stoke City after signing 1 year deal
Stoke City of England new signing, John Mikel Obi has declared that his biggest ambition after join The Potters is to help them gain promotion back to the English Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although he signed only a year’s contract as a free agent on Monday the former Super Eagles’ captain is already thinking big and declared that he is determined to partner with the coach and players in ensuring that Stoke regain their place of pride back in England’s top-flight league.
He added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that The Potters deserve to be on a higher level than they currently are, hence his strong desire to be part of their surge back to the upper echelon, which he says was the primary point of the talks he had with the coach, Michael O’Neill before he signed the dotted lines.
The former Super Eagles’ captain, who has previously played in the English Premier League with Chelsea and in the lower cadre Championship with Middlesbrough, stated his targets during his official unveiling on Monday by the club that has also been graced by Shola Ameobi, Seyi George Olofinjana, Peter Osaze Odemwingie, Victor Moses and Oghenekaro Etebo.
Stoke City also revealed that they were delighted to seal a deal for Mikel, who made more than 370 appearances for Chelsea after joining them from Lyn Oslo of Norway in 2006, and the ace midfielder, who had 91 Nigeria caps before retiring from international football following last year’s African Cup of Nations, won two EPL titles with The Blues.
