Former Rivers State governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Sobomabo Jackrich, has unveiled a new political structure known as the Rivers Grassroots Movement (RGM), aimed at mobilizing support for people-oriented governance and political engagement at the grassroots level.
The launch of RGM follows the official dissolution of the Simplicity Movement, a political support group previously aligned with the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Jackrich—popularly known as Egberi Papa—explained that the dissolution was in line with Governor Fubara’s recent directive that all political support structures operating in his name be disbanded.
“Governor Fubara has asked for the stepping down of all political groups bearing his name, and as a loyal supporter of his administration, we have complied,” Jackrich said.
He, however, emphasized that the group’s loyalty to Governor Fubara remains steadfast. “The dissolution of the Simplicity Movement does not signal a withdrawal of our support. On the contrary, we remain committed to the success of the governor’s people-first leadership,” he added.
Supporters and political loyalists who spoke during the launch praised Jackrich for his leadership and vision. Many pledged their dedication to the success of the Rivers Grassroots Movement and its mission to deepen political awareness and empowerment across the state.
The RGM is expected to play a strategic role in the evolving political landscape in Rivers State, particularly as new alignments take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
