Shettima Calls for Urgent Action to Close Nigeria’s Skills Gap

Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated national response to address Nigeria’s widening skills gap, describing the issue as a top priority for the country’s economic transformation.

Speaking on Thursday at the 6th meeting of the National Council on Skills (NCS) held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Vice President highlighted the council’s core mandate of developing a strategic and future-ready workforce to meet the evolving demands of Nigeria’s economy.

Shettima stressed that closing the skills gap is critical to unlocking the country’s economic potential and driving inclusive growth, noting that skill acquisition and workforce development must be aligned with national development goals.

In a related development, the Federal Government has hinted at plans to review and restructure existing skills training centres across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The goal, according to government sources, is to harmonize their operations and align them more closely with national priorities and emerging economic realities.
