The Red Chambers of the National Assembly thereafter resolved for its members should embark on sensitization in their various constituencies to highlight the importance of peaceful and corporate existence of Nigeria.
The Senate urged Nigerians to desist from actions and making utterances that are capable of threatening the peace of the country.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator AHMED LAWAN of Yobe North, with the support of one hundred and six other Senators.
The Senate observed that the greatest challenge facing Nigeria is the threat to national unity, adding that the call for self-determination, ethnicity and religious intolerance have reached an all time high. ??
The lawmakers also asked the Executive Arm of the Federal government to direct the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Orientation to intensify enlightenment and advocacy campaign to asset the sovereignty of Nigeria and loyalty to the country by all citizens.
The Senate made additional prayers, including urging the Executive to urgently forward the report of the last National Conference to the National Assembly for deliberation? and possible enactment of laws to douse tension among the federation units.
The Senate also urged security agencies to ensure prompt prosecution of anybody found to be making ?utterances that are capable of dividing Nigeria.
