In a move that signals yet another shift in the leadership of Senate committees, the Nigerian Senate has replaced Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Senator Aniekan Bassey, who represents Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, has been named as her replacement. The announcement was made during Thursday’s plenary session. No official reason was provided for the change.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was initially appointed to head the Diaspora Committee on February 4, 2025. That appointment came shortly after she was relieved of her position as Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
This latest development marks a further reshuffling within the Senate leadership structure, reflecting the dynamic nature of committee assignments in the upper legislative chamber. Senator Bassey is expected to assume his new role immediately.
