In his welcome address, Senator SARAKI hammered on the need for all hands to work together in the sustained efforts to take Nigeria out of recession.
Senator SARAKI said as long as the Nigerian economy is still in recession, the work of the Senate is not done.
The Senate President observed that Nigerians are still being laid off from work; as factories are closing their operations.
He said for as long as the hardship in the land continues to bite harder, investment continues to dwindle and the foreign exchange market remains fragmented, much more is expected from the federal lawmakers to pass economic reform bills.
Senator SARAKI said it was his expectation that such reform bills would be passed together with the 2017 budget.
The Senate President recalled that 2016 was a very challenging year for the nation, but assured that assure that the work that have been done so far was gradually setting the stage for a greater and better 2017.
He thanked members all the Senate Committees who worked tireless to help achieve the milestone of the past year.
The Senate President also thanked President MUHAMMADU BUHARI for showing faith with the work of the National Assembly, following the signing of sixteen bills that were passed last year.
